A confluence occurs when two or more flowing bodies of water join together to form a single channel with greater force and ecological impact.
Confluence is an annual environmental film festival at the Academy of Natural Sciences in partnership with BlackStar Projects, cinéSPEAK, the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival, and the Philadelphia Latino Arts and Film Festival. In its second year (2025), the festival will showcase films from regional filmmakers whose work addresses this year's festival theme of Regeneration. These stories are rooted in neighborhoods, cities, and regions, illuminating how communities have been imagining and enacting alternatives to the climate crisis and stewarding ecosystems for future generations.
Confluence programs are pay-what-you-wish taking place each Thursday in April from 5-830pm, featuring an incredible series of feature-length, short, and documentary films and conversations with filmmakers, community-based organizations, and advocates who share how to support the next generation of climate resilience.
